SUMMARY:Sand and Vision Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Sand and Vision Exhibition has been produced by Olive Branch Arts.\nYoung Saharawi refugees were given cameras and asked to record life in a refugee camp. The camp is one of five near Tindouf in Western Algeria.\nThe previously nomadic Saharawis were forced to flee Western Sahara in 1975 when Moroccan forces drove them out. This was because of oil reserves in the area where they had lived for centuries. They can no longer be self-sufficient as they are confined to the camps where temperatures are often 50 Celsius with little or no rainfall.\nThe UN has condemned this for years.\nOxfam has been helping with aid but with regional conflict and climate change things are deteriorating.\nTHE PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW HOW ART CAN FLOURISH IN THE MOST HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS\nOn the launch night…\nAbby Young will introduce the event and set the scene for ongoing projects.\n\nCandace Bahouth will give a presentation.\n\n\nJon Lewis (TwoManTing, Manos Puestas) will be playing a solo guitar set of jazz, African, Latin and Folk tunes.\n\n
