Wilde Things Festival: A Country While- Video Exhibition & Discussion

To round off the Wilde Things LGBTQ+ festival: a one-night video exhibition and discussion:
A Country While’ is a collection of video portraits created by Joe Jukes, a PhD researcher at the University of Brighton, and a dozen research participants from across rural and semi-rural Somerset. By researching using video, Joe explores how queerness becomes visible in and with the rural environment, and has worked with the depicted participants to co-create these images of themselves in places of their choosing. The twelve resulting video portraits show rural queerness appearing in all sorts of places: from fields and country walks to car parks and garages.

Do these videos reflect the countryside you know? Do they confirm or challenge how we anticipate rural LGBTQ+ people might appear? How and where do you experience your sexuality or gender?
